Update: Woman Passenger Fights For Life After Drunk Driver Crashes Car

People Aren't Getting It: Another Drunk Driver Crashes Car  - Passenger In Life Threatening Condition

UPDATE: On Saturday December 9, 2017 at approximately 4:30 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision. Initial reports indicated that a sedan lost control, crashed and that a passenger was seriously injured on Sideroad 9, Belwood.

Woman In Critical Condition

OPP  Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service responded. A 23-year-old female passenger from Elora has been transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre in grave condition. (No change in status of injury)

Technical Collision Investigators are assisting in the investigation. It is estimated that the road be reopened by 2:00 p.m.

The driver, 30-year-old Jeffrey C. A. McDOUGALL of Arthur has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle - Cause Bodily Harm or Death and with Driving with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100mL of Blood - Cause Bodily Harm or Death contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on January 5, 2018.

Wellington County OPP would like to remind everyone to drive responsibly, adjust for road and weather conditions and never drive while your ability is impaired. If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, you can call police at 911 to report it.

Multiple Charges For Impaired In Just Two Days

Locally, The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Cambridge Detachment has arrested and charged three people with Impaired Driving -related offences in two days. 

On December 6, 2017, at approximately 12:03 a.m., officers stopped a motor vehicle on Highway 401 westbound at Homer Watson Boulevard, in the City of Kitchener for Stunt Driving. Officers determined that the male driver had been drinking. As a result of police investigation, Blake JONES, a 24-year-old male from Kitchener, Ontario, has been charged with Drive Over 80 mgs and Stunt Driving. He is scheduled to appear in Kitchener Court on January 24, 2018 to answer to the charges.

On December 6, 2017, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 85 southbound at King Street, in the City of Waterloo. Upon arrival officers determined that one of the involved drivers was Impaired by Alcohol.  Officers arrested the female driver and she registered over 3 times the legal limit of blood-alcohol level. Lorna HEIDT, a 31-year-old female from Kitchener, Ontario has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mgs, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance. She is scheduled to appear in Kitchener Court on January 24, 2018 to answer to the charges.

On December 7, 2017, at approximately 12:40 p.m., an officer was at a gas station on Hespeler Rd, in the City of Cambridge, and observed a male driver who was exhibiting signs of impairment. As a result of police investigation, officers determined this male was Impaired by Drug. Antonio AMADDEO, a 55-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario has been charged with Impaired Driving by Drug and Possession of Cocaine. He is scheduled to appear in Kitchener Court on January 16, 2018 to answer to the charges.

The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one's ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit.
