Guelph Police And Wellington County OPP Recent Incidents

Vehicle Collision Leads To Drug Trafficking Charges

(TOWNSHIP OF PILKINGTON, ON) -  Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Second Line and Side Road 4 near Elora. It was reported that a vehicle had lost control, struck the ditch and caught on fire. Emergency services responded and the lone occupant was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Within the damaged vehicle, officer's observed a quantity of cocaine and meth along with a number drug trafficking equipment.

As a result of the investigation, Brendan William FLEMING, 34-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) for the Purpose of Trafficking, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Meth and Cocaine) and Driving while Suspended. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on September 10, 2019.

R.I.D.E. Check Nets Meth

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) - On August 12, 2019 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Gore Road near Cambridge. At approximately 11:00 p.m. the driver of a grey sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of cannabis coming from within the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that that the vehicle was uninsured and the driver was in possession of a quantity of crystal methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Samantha Francine PLOUFFE-CACHON, 28-years-old of Kitchener has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine) and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on September 20, 2019.

Opp Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Investigation Concluded

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - On September 7, 2019 at approximately 11:40 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious single motor vehicle collision on Side Road 20 between the Third and Fourth Line in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Investigation revealed that a sedan was travelling westbound on Side Road 20 when the driver lost control and left the roadway. The vehicle collided with a tree and rolled over. The driver, a 25-year-old man from the Blue Mountains, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver's identity will not be released at the request of the family.

Getting Pedestrian Safety Off On The Right Foot

'Back-To-School' Traffic Safety Campaign

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) - With the intention of starting the school year off on the right foot members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in the Back-to-School Traffic Safety Campaign. From September 3, 2019 to September 6, 2019, officers were deployed to school zones throughout the county and conducted a high-visibility, zero tolerance, enforcement initiative with the goal of complete child pedestrian safety in mind. Anything that could put a child's life and well-being at risk was targeted.

As a result, 35 charges were laid against drivers and student pedestrian safety was preserved in our school zones.

Reducing hazardous driving behaviours should be on all driver's minds.

Witness Reports Impaired Driver

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - On September 9, 2019 at approximately 7:35 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint involving a white construction van travelling on Wellington Road 32 near Fife Road. The vehicle was described as tailgating and weaving all over the road.

Police located the vehicle and while speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant in another policing jurisdiction as well as suspended from driving a motor vehicle.

Michael Joseph AUGER, 34-years-old of Quinte West has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive While Under Suspension X2 contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph today to speak to the charges.

Drugs Seized From Idling Truck And Driver Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On September 8, 2019 at approximately 8:50 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle occurrence on Durham Street East involving a pick-up truck idling in the area for approximately two hours.

Officers located the vehicle and woke-up the driver who was sleeping behind the wheel. Investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a large quantity of marihuana and methamphetamine and was placed under arrest.

Bryce Johnathon SHAW, 20-years-old of Grey Highlands has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Possession of Over 30 grams of Dried Cannabis (or Equivalent) in a Public Place and Possession of 1 or More Cannabis Plants in a Public Place contrary to the Cannabis Act.

The accused will appear in Guelph Criminal Court on October 11, 2019 to answer to the charges.

Hanlon Racing Charge

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On August 4, 2019, at approximately 9:00 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a black Sports Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

As a result, Nicholas Robert WATSON, 24-years-old of Waterloo has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on October 2, 2019. The accused's driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Hanlon Racing Charge x2

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On August 4, 2019, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a turquoise sedan travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

As a result, Mohammed ALI, 45-years-old of Scarborough has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on October 2, 2019. The accused's driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Property damage - arrest

On September 11, 2019, at 12:50 p.m., Guelph Police went to Howitt Street to investigate a property damage complaint. A man had parked his car on Howitt Street when a female approached with a rock and began smashing the car. The female caused approximately $2,000 in damage. Police located the woman who was arrested after a brief struggle.

The 60-year-old Guelph woman has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and resist arrest. She will appear in court on October 18, 2019.

Impaired driver - arrest

On September 12, 2019 at 2:30am, Guelph police located a vehicle in a parking lot on Silvercreek Parkway South. The driver of the vehicle was asleep behind the steering wheel and was determined to be impaired by alcohol.

The 43-year-old Michigan man has been charged with operation while impaired. He was held for a bail hearing.

Arrests on warrants

On September 11, 2019 the Guelph Police arrested six individuals on various warrants.

Theft from cars

On September 11, 2019, the Guelph Police received three reports of theft from cars. The locations were Chadwick Avenue, Elderberry Court, and Pacific Place.

Speed enforcement

On September 11, 2019 the Guelph Police Traffic unit conducted speed enforcement in school zones in the Willow Road and Colonial Drive areas. Two tickets and three warnings were issued.

Calls for Service

Over the past 24 hours the Guelph Police Service dealt with 239 calls for service.
