Distraction Theft Artist Steals Woman's Wallet

On the morning of May 26th, 2020, a 73 year old female was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of a commercial plaza located near the intersection of Paisley Street and Norfolk Street in the City of Guelph when an unknown adult male approached her. He advised that her vehicle was leaking some kind of oil. The female exited her vehicle, observed an oily substance sprayed on the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, thanked the male and drove off.

The male is described as:

  • middle aged
  • average height
  • heavy set
  • slightly balding
  • well dressed
  • spoke with an ascent

When the female arrived home, she checked her purse and found that her wallet was missing. Her wallet contained numerous items including credit cards, debit cards, health card, driver’s licence and $30 cash.

At 11:55am, three attempts were made to remove money from the female’s account at a bank located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North. The attempts were unsuccessful and the cards were left behind.

The Guelph Police Service has been in communication with neighboring police services in regards to this incident and has learned that numerous similar incidents have occurred recently in other jurisdictions. It appears that more mature adults are targeted in these incidents. We would like to remind the public to very cautious and vigilant when approached by someone they don’t know.

 

Yamaha YZF600R Genesis Motorcycle Stolen

Some time overnight on May 27th, 2020, a blue, pink and orange coloured 1995 Yamaha YZF600R Genesis motorcycle was taken from the backyard of a residence located near the intersection of a residence located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Speedvale Avenue East in the City of Guelph.

Male Arrested For Numerous Charges

Some time overnight on April 21st, 2020, an adult male pried open the front door of an apartment building located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road East and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. He gained access to the front lobby and then proceeded to the parking garage. There was no damage done to the building in this incident and it’s uncertain if anything was taken in the parking garage.

Further investigation revealed that the male was on an Undertaking with numerous conditions including to reside at a particular residence and be at that residence between 9pm and 6am, and that during most of the month of May he not been abiding by his curfew, nor had he been residing at the residence.

On May 28th, at 7:47am, police located the male near the intersection of Delhi Street and Eramosa Road, and he was subsequently arrested.

A 24 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Break And Enter With Intent
  • Fail To Comply With Undertaking x2
  • Breach Probation x3

He will appear in court on September 8th.

 

Mercedes GLK 4 Door SUV Stolen

Some time between the evening of May 27th and 6:30pm on May 28th, 2020, a 2011 Mercedes GLK 4 door SUV parked outside a residence located near the intersection of Woodland Glen Drive and Stone Road West in the City of Guelph was taken. A set of keys was left in the vehicle.

Motorcycle Refused To Stop For Police

On May 28th, 2020, at 9:40pm, police observed a motorcycle with a newer style headlight travelling westbound on Speedvale Avenue West near Elmira Road North in the City of Guelph. The motorcycle was travelling at a speed of 105km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however the motorcycle turned northbound on Elmira Road North and accelerated aggressively away reaching speeds of well over 130km/h.

A pursuit was not initiated due to public safety concerns.
