CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING ASSAULT ON A PARAMEDIC
(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) . Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services responded to a call for service on Gordon Street in Fergus.
While in the back of an ambulance, the suspect became combative and assaulted one of the paramedics.
As a result of the investigation, Marcie Elizabeth DIAMOND, 63-years-old of Fergus was charged on January 14, 2021 with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Stephen Dewar, Chief of Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service, has expressed his concerns over this incident and other acts of violence towards paramedics. "Paramedics and all emergency responders work under difficult conditions, and that stress has increased significantly while working through this pandemic. Incidents of assaults on paramedics are unacceptable and we appreciate the efforts of the County of Wellington OPP to hold people responsible for their actions."
The accused is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph on February 6, 2021.
FEMALE DRIVER FACING SEVERAL CHARGES FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP
(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On January 5, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 at South Street in the Township of Centre Wellington. The officer observed a black passenger van travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 50 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 100 km/h.
The driver provided a false name and identified themselves as the owner of the motor vehicle. The driver was released at the scene and issued a summons.
Further Investigation revealed the driver's true identity and confirmed that they were suspended from driving. Police also discovered that the accused did not have permission from the owner to be operating their vehicle.
As a result, Marie Sandy MORROW, 58-years-old of North Bay has been charged with;
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on February 12, 2021.
NUMEROUS CHARGES LAID IN STOLEN VEHICLES INVESTIGATION
(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) - On December 26, 2020, at approximately 8:15 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft of a truck which had just occurred at a residence on Wellington Road 7 near Alma.
Witnesses reported that two suspects arrived at the victim's property in a black pick-up truck that was carrying a snowmobile. One of the suspects then stole the victim's vehicle and the two fled the area at a high rate of speed.
A short time later, police spotted one of the pick-up trucks on the Fourteenth Line of Mapleton Township. As police were attempting to pull over the vehicle, the suspect suddenly reversed and collided with an OPP cruiser causing minor damage.
During the arrest, police formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.
Police determined that the motor vehicle was stolen out of Middlesex County and the snowmobile was reported stolen out of West Grey. A quantity of cocaine was located in the stolen vehicle.
Carrie Lynn BENINGER, 40-years-old from Barrie, has been charged with;
As a result of further investigation, the second suspect that fled the area in the other stolen truck was later identified. They are currently in custody on outstanding charges with another police agency.
Matthew Irwin CHARLTON, 36-years-old from Wingham has been charged with;
Both accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph at a later date.
